Vase Family, 2nd Generation
The second generation of the growing Vase Family combines the brutal Medieval process of Cuir Bouilli with the refinement of oil gilding. The contemporary reverence for leather is rejected in favour of a more brutal approach, which sees the material boiled and stretched to achieve compelling forms and rigidity.

The leather vases are based on the forms of antique wine bottles, and incorporate hand-gilded blocks of 22 carat gold and palladium (a precious metal in the platinum family).

This series of vases were made for an exhibition at Sotheby’s Bond Street, and demonstrate a more sophisticated level of detail and finish, which builds on the first collection of exhibited at the Royal College of Art in 2008.

Materials: Boiled Leather, Polyurethane Resin, 22 carat gold/palladium oil gilding
